Cheek Filler

Why may we need cheek filler?

Cheek fillers – what’s all the fuss about?

As we get older, one of the most noticeable facial changes is the loss of volume in the cheek area as the malar fat pads separate and move down under the force of gravity. This is most obvious in patients that are slender or have a normal age-appropriate weight. The cheek bones become less pronounced and the skin becomes saggier. In some patients, this can create a ‘gaunt’ hollowness or aged look.

Injectable fillers offer a quick and effective method of subtle cheek enhancement. The effect is not designed to be dramatic, nor should it be, but a subtle improvement that looks natural. Replacing your natural cheek volume, not giving you something you never had (unless that is desired of course). This is a quick solution with immediate effects without the swelling and potential down time and bruising that come with surgery.

While the effect of injectable cheek augmentation is only temporary, how long it lasts will be influenced by what type of injectable filler is used and the speed with which the individual patient metabolises the filler. Injectable cheek augmentation can be enhanced by the simultaneous use of specialist injections in the crow’s feet and tear trough areas if needed. This combination of treatments to the middle part of the face helps restore natural volume and relaxation.

An individualised treatment plan will be planned with you during your consultation.

How does the treatment work?

Filler is administered to the area using a small needle or a cannula depending on the area being treated and the effect Dr. Renée wants to achieve.

What product is used?

We use a hyaluronic acid filler from Restylane, either Restylane Lyft or Defyne.

Will it hurt?

The treatment is relatively pain free due to the tiny needle, the speed of treatment and the local anaesthetic in the filler used.

How long does the treatment take?

Around 15-20 minutes.

Are there any side effects?

There may be some minor swelling and redness at the treated area. Bruising is possible if a needle is used but will resolves as quickly as a normal bruise for you.

The area may be sensitive for a few days after treatment.

When will I see results?

You will be able to see results immediately but it will take a few days for the swelling to subside and for the filler to settle in place.

How long do results last?

9-12 months

The amount of filler needed will be determined during your consultation
