Tear Trough Filler

Why might we need tear trough filler?

Tear trough filler can be needed for several reasons. As we age and fat pads in the face diminish and migrate, this can combine with the tiredness of everyday life to give us troughs that run from the corner of our eyes and down into the cheek area. Using a cannula to minimise bruising, careful application of dermal filler can soften these grooves and make you look fresher and less tired.

We can also add filler to the mid face area which adds support to the tear troughs, improving the overall area. Dr. Renée will discuss all available treatment options with you during your consultation.

Who is suitable for tear trough filler?

Tear troughs are a specialised treatment area carried out by Dr. Renée who has been specially trained and has been doing them out for many years. We are very careful to ensure that the patients we treat are carefully selected as being suitable to benefit from this procedure. During your consultation Dr. Renée will assess you and let you know if she can improve the area. As with all filler treatments the degree of improvement cannot be guaranteed or predicted, hence the importance of ensuring that this treatment is right for you.

Tear troughs are hollows under the eyes. They are sometimes confused with ‘bags’. Unfortunately bags cannot be treated non surgically.

For patients who are not candidates for tear trough filler we also offer our new Light Eyes treatment. This treatment is great for rejuvenating the under eye area, tightening the skin and brightening dark circles. What’s not to love! Tatler and Vogue are already fans of this treatment which is being touted as the best new solution for dark circles! How does the treatment work?

Dermal filler is administered to the area using a cannula. This is to minimise bruising. It is placed deep under the area for safety and to avoid unwanted side effects. Less is definitely more in this area!

The filler is then gently massaged to create the desired result.

What product is used?

We use a hyaluronic acid filler from Restylane, usually Restylane Refyne.

Will it hurt?

Not usually. The needle is tiny and used only once to make a hole for the cannula which is then almost pain free. The filler also has an anaesthetic in it which numbs the area quite quickly. Most patients tolerate it very easily and it is over very quickly.

How long does the treatment take?

This is a relatively quick procedure taking around 15 minutes to carry out.

Are there any side effects?

You may experience mild sensitivity and redness at the treated area. A cannula is used to minimise bruising, but bruising is still always possible.

As with all non-surgical treatments there are risks, although they are extremely rare. These will be discussed with you during your consultation.

When will I see results?

The initial results will be immediate, however as there will be some swelling we recommend you wait around a week to see the true result. It is also important that the area is slightly underfilled on the day as the filler will attract water and expand and it is a small area so this expansion is accounted for when Dr Renée does the treatment.

How long do results last?

Results normally last between 9-12 months but this varies patient to patient and is dependent on factors such as age, lifestyle and skin type.
