Mouth Depressors or Down-Turned Mouth

What are Mouth Depressors?

Mouth Depressors are the muscles at either side of your mouth, actually called Depressor Angularis Oris. As we age these muscles tighten and so pull the mouth corners downwards, making us look sadder than we often are.

When these muscles around the mouth begin to pull downwards, we can end up looking sad or grumpy when in fact we aren’t at all!

Can we treat a downturned mouth?

We can inject a product into the Depressor muscle which in turn will prevent it from dragging down the corners of the mouth.

How does the treatment work?

A series of small injections are administered to the area around the mouth. These injections relax the muscles, preventing them from pulling the mouth corners down.

What product is used?

We use a product from Galderma called Azzalure – Botulinum Toxin Type A.

Will it hurt?

You may feel some mild discomfort from the needle but apart from that this procedure is relatively pain free.

How long does the treatment take?

Around 10 minutes.

Are there any side effects?

As with all non surgical treatments, when performed by a qualified medical practitioner the risks are very low.

However there are some to be aware of.

  • swelling/bruising in the treated area

When will I see results?

Results can be seen between 2-10 days after treatment, and around 21 days for the full effect.

How long do results last?

Results last 4-6 months.
